The most common question I’m asked is: why did you become a photographer? The only truly honest answer is that I’m a nosey bastard. I like to poke my nose into other people’s business, and then tell the world about it. Photography is one of the only professions that gives you a licence to do that. And I love meeting interesting people. The latest issue of @bjp1854 has an article Taking A Stanza, which discusses the renewed popularity of poetry paired with photography. In particular David Solo’s (who co-curated Photo Poetry Surfaces at the 2021 Bristol Photo Festival) statement that, “these collaborations work best when the poetry is not a caption and the photography is not an illustration, but rather both raise questions,” really struck a chord.
